Canoe Guide - Born-Åssjön

Canoe Tours in Dalarna: Born-Åssjön
I have only canoed the middle portion of this route.
This tour connects three tours, the Vasaleden, Balungen-Runn and Amunganturen. It is mainly on lakes but
there are a few short sections of stream to paddle.
Start: Born: Born is a minor road just east of Nedre Gärdsjö which is on highway 301 NE of Rättvik
Finish: Åssjön on highway 296/301 SW of Edsbyn
Transport: Nedre Gärdsjö and Åssjön are linked by bus routes.
Portages: 10-13 portages, 0.1 - 6.0 km
Difficulty: Medium
Distance: 136 km
Maps: There is a good canoe map and description of the Balungen-Runn section of the route but I’m not
aware of canoe maps of the other parts of the route.
Born - Linghed (Vasaleden) 46 km 2-3 portages, 0.1 - 6km
I have no details of this route. Launch into lake Ljugaren at Born and paddle east and then SE down this
lake. You pass into lake Aven and then lakes Norra and Södra Ungsjön. There is a long portage at some stage
before you arrive at lake Björkan and Enviken. Follow the small river Kolningån to Sör-Lingan and Linghed.
Linghed - Lamborn (Balungen-Runn) 25 km 2 portages, 1.0-2.5 km
You now head north and follow the Balungen-Runn route which is described in the opposite direction
elsewhere in this guide. There are good maps and route description for this section of the route.
Lamborn - Dalstuga 10 km 3 portages, 0.1-1.0 km
This section of the route joins the Balungen-Runn route to the Amunganturen. I have no details but you will
pass through lakes, Stora Draggen, Dalstugströmmen and into lake Amungen at Dalstuga, with portages needed
between the lakes.
Dalstuga - Dalfors 25 km No portages
Paddle up lake Amungen to Dalfors where the Amunganturen starts.
Dalfors - Åssjön (Amunganturen) 30 km 3-5 portages, 0.1 - 3.0 km
I haven’t any details, but there are portages between the 7 lakes in this section of the tours. The route links
lake Amungen, Dalkarlaspen, Skälaspen, Gammelbosjön, Grundaspen, Djupaspen and ends in lake Åssjön.
