The route:
You can launch into the river just south of highway 80 in Hofors. Paddle through a series of small lakes linked
by the river Hoån with occasional portages, through Torsåker and into lake Ottnaren. Leave Ottnaren from its
NW corner into Ältbosjön and through Hammarby into the large lake Storsjön. Paddle along the northern shore
of this lake to Sandviken and Forsbacka. At Forsbacka you portage into the Gavleån for which there is a good
map and description available in English. You will need to portage the power station at Mackmyra. There are
more portages before you arrive at Gävle where you end the tour at Boulognerskogen after passing under
highway 80.
