This tour follows a series of small lakes and streams from Lingbo in north Gästrickland to Högbo Bruk near
Sandviken. There are many fairly easy rapids and the amount of portaging required depends on how many of
the rapids you are capable of shooting.
Start: Lingbo: Lingbo is on highway 272 north of Sandviken
Finish: Högbo Bruk
Portages: 6-12 portages, 0.1 - 8.0 km
Difficulty: Medium

Route extension: You can continue down the Jädraån and into lake Storsjön to finish at Sandviken or down
the river Gavleån to Gävle as described in the Hoforsleden tour.
The route:
Lingbo - Ockelbo 32 km 5-9 portages, 0.1 - 6.0 km
Launch into lake Lingan at Lingbo and paddle to leave Kingan down the river Smalån at the eastern end of
the lake and paddle down the river into lake Klubbäcksjön and on into lake Ekaren. Exit back into the Smalån
and paddle down to Långströmmen. Inspect this rapid before attempting to shoot it. A little further on there are
further rapids which may be shot in suitable conditions or portaged on the east bank. Paddle through lake
Säljssön. The rapid on the exit to the lake isn’t navigable so portage to the bathing area in Mörtebo. You are
now in the river Gopån. This should be no problem unless the water level is high. There is the Skärpströmmen
rapid which you will need to portage or rope down before you enter Liss-Dammsjön and Stor-Dammsjön. You
will probably need to portage at the eastern end of Stor-Dammsjön into lake Viksjön. Paddle down into lake
Storsjön. Paddle out of Storsjön down the river Murån until the river becomes impassable. You will need to
portage about 3 km to lake Tolvören. At the southern end of this lake you portage into lake Norrtjärn and again
into lake Sågtjärn to Vittersjö. There is now a 6 km portage along a disused railway line to Lake Östersjön just
east of Ockelbo.
Ockelbo - Högsbo Bruk 36 km 1-3 portages, 0.1 - 0.9 km
Paddle down Östersjön into the river Testeboån. At Konstdalsströmmen ther are two rapids which you should
inspect and portage if necessary. There is another rapid at Kolforsen which is fairly easy before you enter lakes,
Fjärden and Långsjön. There is a further rapid at Hångeln which should be inspected before shooting or
portaging. Paddle down lake Mellansjön and take the exit at the SE corner to the Grytströmmen rapid which is
navigable and paddle down to lake Lundbosjön. There is a logging channel between the west shore of
Lundbosjön and lake Öjaren but it is not navigable and you have an awkward 850 m portage. Paddle down
Öjaren to Ålhusdammen where you have a 30m portage. Continue down the river to Högbo Bruk where this
tour finishes.
