Canoe Guide - Åtvidaberg
                                            Canoe Tours in Östergötland: Åtvidaberg

I have not canoed this route
This tour follows a series of small lakes from west of Åtvidaberg to the Baltic Sea with a little small
stream paddling.

Start: Nedre or Övre Virken. The easiest place to start this tour is on highway 134 south of Åtvidaberg.
Alternatively launch from the minor road to the south of Nedre Virken.

Finish: Lofthammar. Loftahammar is on the Baltic Sea north of Västervik.

Portages: 9 portages, 0.3 - 3.0 km

Distance: 73 km

Difficulty: Medium.

Map: There is a canoe map for this tour.

 The route:
Nedre Virkin - Bysjön        15 km         4 portages, 0.3-0.6 km
You paddle the small lakes, Nedre and Övre Virken, Tran, Glan and  Bysjön with short portages between
them.
Bysjön - Syrsan        43 km         5 portages        0.5 - 3.0 km
Porage 2.5 km to the south of  Åtvidaberg to reach lake Fallasjön. Paddle down this lake and portage 2.5
km into Båtsjön. Head down this lake and into the Storån, a small stream. After a bit you will have to
portage 3 km through Falerum before relaunching into lake Åkervristent the end of this lake there is a
250m portage into the Storån which you follow into lake Storsjön which you padle down to Eds Bruk. Here
there is a 2 km portage into Syrsan.
Syrsan - Lofthammar          25km                No portages
Syrsan is actually part odf the Baltic Sea but it is a a fiord and you could paddle down to Loftahammar either
15km directly down the fiord or exiting the fiord to the south at Stromsholmen and finding a route between
the islands to Loftahammar.
