Canoe Guide - Åsnen Round Tour
Canoe Tours in Småland: Åsnen Round Tour
I have canoed through lake Åsnen but have not canoed this route. It is a round tour following the shore of
lake so there are no portages and you can start and finish anywhere.
Start and finish: This is a circular route. This description starts at the Canoe centre at Ålshult which is on a
minor road NE of the junction of Highways 120 and 126 40 km north of Karlshamn. Its length can be increased
or decreased by choosing variations.
Portages: There may be a short portage between the east and west sections of Åsnen but there could be
small channels to canoe under the road.
Difficulty: Easy, unless there is a strong wind building up waves in the lakes which will make paddling
difficult.
Route extensions: This route connects with the Varends-leden from Asa to Ryd.
Maps: There are good canoe maps available for this route.
Distance: The route described is about 160 km
The route:
From Ålshult paddle NNE up and swing left round the head of the Getnö peninsular and west to Torsö. Then
head north up the west shore of Åsnen to the northern tip near Skatelöv and return down the east shore and
pass round the Hössön peninsular and cross a spit of land to enter Åkavik. Head north and cross another spit of
land to enter the eastern section of Åsnen. This eastern section could be more exposed to the wind as there is
less protection from the islands. Circle the shore of Åsnen in a clockwise direction before returning into
Kolsvatten and down to Urshult. Paddle back up the west shore of Kolsvatten and then back down to Ålshult.
