Canoe Tours in Småland: Emån
I have not canoed this route.
This tour canoes a tributary of the Emån, the Solgenån, to join the Emån at Holsbybrunn and follows the
Emån to Ryningsnäs. The route is mostly on river with a few small lakes.
Start: Värne. Värne is on the Solgenån as it leaves lake Solgen. It is on the minor road linking Eksjö to
Vetlanda via Mellby.
Finish: Ryningsnäs
Alternative start: It is possible to canoe down the upper Emån from Vallsjön to Holsbybrunn with some
rapids and 10 portages.
Route extension: It is possible to continue down to the sea but it is the last and toughest part with a lot of
white-water passages and portages and is only for very experienced canoeists.
Distance: 90 km
Maps: There are good canoe maps and descriptions for this route.
Portages: 11 portages, 0.1 -3.0 km
Difficulty: Easy

Värne - Holsbybrunn 20 km
Paddle down the Solgenån to Klintedammen where there is a 800m portage round the power station. There
are three more short portages before you join the Emån at Holsbybrunn.
Holsbybrunn - Kvillsfors 30 km
There are several short portages at power stations in this section
Kvillsfors - Ryningsnäs 40 km
At Kvillsfors land at the bathing area for a 3 km portage. There are then just a few short portages on the
river on the way down to Ryningsnäs.
