Canoe Guide - Härån/Lagan
                                            Canoe Tours in Småland: Härån/Lagan

I have canoed the Härån which is a lovely little river, but have not canoed the section of the Lagan
described here.
The is a small river Härån flowing about 40 km before joining the Lagan about 10 km above Värnamo. The
Lagan then flows another 70 km down to the junction with the Bolmån. If you are not continuing down the
Lagaleden to the sea then you will need to canoe about  7km more to reach Traryd.

Start: Svenarum is on route 30 about 40 km south of Jönköping and 5 km south of Hok. Launch at the
canoe centre.

Finish: Traryd is on the E4 about 30 km south of Ljungby

Distance: 130 km

Time: The section from Svenarum to Värnamo took me about 16 hours of actual paddling.

Alternative Finish: If you just canoe the Härån you can finish at Värnamo after 50 km.

Tour extensions: You can continue down the Lagaleden from Traryd and finish at Laholm.

Maps: There is a canoe map available for the Härån. I am not aware of any canoe maps for the section of
the Lagan.

Transport: There are bus routes connecting Svenarum, Värnamo and Traryd.

The route:
a) Svenarum to Värnamo        50 km
1.8 hours: At the dam at Blomfors Kvarn I portaged on the right for 25m then floated the canoe down
about 50m .
    2.3 hours: Rest-place
2.5 hours: 25m portage on right at Munkabo weir.
4 hour: Rest and camping place on lakeHubbestadsjön
6.5 hours: 50 m portage round weir on left at Dammens Kvarn
8 hours: 75m portage on left at Hemmershult
9 hours: 100m portage on right at Gustavsberg weir.
10.5 hours: 300m portage on right at Fryele Kvarn. There is a waterfall and bouldery rapid here. Rest-
place.
12.3 hours: 125m portage on right of power station.
12.5 hours: Bouldery rapid. Portage needed when flow is low. Inspect before attempting to shoot.
    15.7 hours: Camping at Värnamo
b) Lagan         80km
I have not canoed this section of river and I don’t have a detailed description. It is described as easy and
there don‘t appear to be any problems on studying the aerial photos of the route. You start with about 20 km
down lake Vidöstern and then follow the Lagan for 60 km. There are 4 portages between 0.1 and 0.5 km
