Canoe Guide - Lammhult - Ljungby
Canoe Tours in Småland: Lammhult - Ljungby

This route isn’t paddled often as there are substantial portages. I paddled this route about 10 years ago
and can’t remember the details of the portages, but I managed the route without any details other than the
maps. This is a route to canoe when the water levels are fairly high so that there is sufficient flow of water in
the shallow streams.

Start: Björno Bad, 2 km east of Lammhult. Lammult is on highway 30 north of Växjö.

Finish: Åby on the outskirts of Lagan. It might be more convenient to fimish at Ljungby a few kilometres
down the Lagan.

Transport: Lammhult and Ljungby are on bus routes

Route extensions: This route could be used to link the Varends-leden to the Laga-leden

Difficulty: This is a route for experienced canoists. You will have to cope with difficult portages, small
rapids and possibly wind on the big lakes. There is no detailed route description or specialised canoe map so
your navigation skills could be tested.
Portages: There are many portages up to about 2 km so a canoe trolley is needed.

Distance: 137 km

The route:
Björno - Vrigstad: 60 km
Paddle north up lake Allgunnen to Rörvik, portage into Hillen and at the NW corner portage into
Rydasjön. Cross this small lake and then portage from Ryd to Allsarpasjön. Head north up Allsarpasjön and
use the short Tälla kanal into Brohultasjön. The small stream Lillån flows from the NW end of this small
lake and this leads to Sunnerbysjön.
Vrigstad - Åby: 77 km
This section of the route is a recognised canoe trail. You could paddle north to Vrigstad from here, but the
route heads out the SW corner of the lake into the Störan, a wider stream.
The Storan leads into Storsjön and through further small lakes into the large lake Rusken. Exit this lake at
Os at its SW corner and paddle down the Osån into lake Lyen. Paddle south and under the road into
Hultasjön . Head south then follow the stream into lake Kätteln. A small stream leads into lake Lången.
Head north up this lake and head down the small river Arån and down to lake Furen. Head north up this lake
and re-enter the Arån which leads to the northern tip of lake Flåren.
Head south down this lane and exit at the SW corner down a small stream to Åby on the outskirts of Lagan
where the stream joins the river Lagan..

Information:

The whole route is on Blå kartan 53 (Växjö) and map 63 at 1:100,000, but you might find it easier to use
Gröna Kartan Växjö 5E NO, 5E NV, and Nässjö 6E SV and map 5D SO at 1:50,000.Head south down this lane
and exit at the SW corner down a small stream to Åby on the outskirts of Lagan where the stream joins the
river Lagan
