Canoe Guide - Ronnebyån
Canoe Tours in Småland/Blekinge: Ronnebyån
The Ronnebyån Winds from Småland into Blenkinge and before flowing into the Baltic Sea at Ronneby. It
is a mixture of winding river and small lakes formed by the power station dams.
The water flow in this river can be too low to paddle the route in July-September. You should check that
there is sufficient water before you attempt the route.
Start: Hovmantorp. Hovmantorp is on highway 25 about 20 km east of Växjö.
Finish: Karlsnäsgården, about 10 km north of Ronneby
Route extension: It is possible to continue down to Ronneby but there are 5 dams and you are likely to be
walking further than you paddle.
Transport: Ronneby and Hovmantorp are on bus routes.
Portages: 13 portages between 50 and 900m. A canoe trolley would be useful.
Maps: There are good canoe maps and route descriptions available for this route.
Distance: 71 km
Difficulty: Medium
The route:
Launch at Gökaskratts campsite at Hovmantorp and head south then east to reach the Ronnebyån. there is
a 50m portage to enter the Ronnebyån and another 100m portage at the road bridge. After passing through the
small lake Knäsjön there is 300m portage at Granebo (roads on right). Further downstream there is a 50m
portage because of a low bridge at Gottanmad before entering the small lake Veden. There is a 500m portage
on the right at Ölethal and another 100m at Skogskvarn before entering the larger lake Viren. There is a
bathing place at Sandvik. Cross the lake to Korrö where there is a 200m portage on the right. There is a 100m
portage at Bro before you enter lakes Bastsjön and Sandsjön. You need to portage 250m into lake
Krokfjorden. At the power station at the southern end of Krokfjorden you must portage 800m into another
narrow lake and head down this to a 700m portage at the power station at Ryadammen (take out on the right
and relaunch on the left). You enter another narrow lake and paddle down to a 900m portage on the right at
Klåvbens power station at the end of the lake. Another linear lake leads to Långböl power station and a 150 m
portage on the left. Continue down another linear lake to Karlsnäsgården where you end your tour.
