Canoe Tours in Värmland: Bergslagskanalen
I have only canoed the lower half of this route.
This section takes you through small lakes and canals from Storfors to Karlskoga. This is a complex system of
lakes and many variations are possible.
Start: Storfors
Finish: Karlskoga
Distance: 85 km
Difficulty: Easy
Portages: 3 portages, 0.1-0.3 km

Route extension: This route is part of my suggested Värmland Round Tour.
The route:
From Storfors head up lake Mögsjön and enter lake Östersjön. Paddle to the NE corner of Östersjön and
paddle up Prästbäcken into lake Daglösen and on to Daglösen. Head south to Asphyttan where you need to
portage or pass through the locks. There are further locks at the SE corner of Aspen and enter the
Bjurbäckskanalen. Portage or pass through the locks at the southern end of this canal and enter
Stor-Lungen.Head south and enter lake Öjevettern and leave this lake at its south end through the narrow
Gransundet into Hyttsjön. Pass under the bridge at Nässundet into Ullvettern and paddle into Frövettern. Cross
this lake and pass under the bridge at Käxsundet and into Alkvettern. Paddle up this lake to Knappfors and enter
lake Lonnen and follow the Timsälven into Karlskoga.. You have to end this section on the outskirts of Karlskoga
before the river drops steeply down into lake Mökeln.
