Canoe Tours in Västergötland: Tidan
I have not canoed this route.
The Tidan is a small river. It is shallow and rocky in places. When I went to get information from the
canoe centre before canoeing the route I was advised not to attempt the route with a plastic or kevlar canoe.
When I looked at their aluminium canoes they were more battered and dented than I had ever seen before.
I would not advice attempting this route in your own canoe!! If you want to canoe the route hire a canoe.
Start: Kyrkevarn. Kyrkevarn is at Sandheim on a minor road west of Highway 47/48 just north of Mullsjö
which is NW of Jönköping.
Finish: Mariestad which is on the SE shore of the inland sea, Vänern.
Portages: 25 portages, 0.1 - 2 km
Distance: 160 km
Difficulty: Medium - Difficult
Route extension: It is possible to start 30 km upstream at Bottnaryd. You then have an easy paddle down
the narrow linear lake Stråken to Bottnaryd. No portages.
The route: I haven’t got a route description of this tour, but canoe maps are available from the canoe
cente.
