Outdoor Adventures with Ancient Brit
Pyrenees GR11 2003 - Day 34: September 12th
Friday 12th September
There were clear skies in the morning. I climbed over the Collado de Marrana and
then dropped down to the ski resort of Ull de Ter and the Refugio de Ull de Ter, which was
mainly isolated from the mess of the ski resort. The Mediterranean Sea was visible in the
distance, reflecting the early morning sun. I dropped steeply down the ski road, then down
a pista beneath powerlines to Pla de la Malina for my first break. The GR11 then followed
the road down to the small tourist town of Setcases. I then set off up a steep pista through
the woods towards the Collado de Lliens. There were many locals descending from the
woods with baskets full of wild mushrooms. By the time I reached the col I was on my own
again and stopped for a break in glorious sunshine. There followed a descent down a long
grassy ridge to the town of Mollo. I thought about camping on a grassy patch by the
fountain on the edge of Mollo. I was told by the locals that it would be all right to camp
there, but I decided it would be too public and possibly too noisy. I carried on to the
Collado de Boixera, where I had left a supply bag, and camped on a small patch of meadow
after 8½ hours of walking. This was a road pass and soon after I arrived a car pulled up at
the parking area and started shooting. I couldn’t see what they were shooting at.
