PCT 2002 - August 30th
Day 129: Friday 30th August                Rock Creek – Trout Creek

I intended an easy day today so I didn’t leave until almost 8am. It was overcast all
morning. I followed the jeep track up Rock Creek for a further 5 miles before stopping for
my first break. I had a very quick swim in another rock pool, but it seemed much colder now.
American Dippers were feeding in the stream and a tern (I couldn’t identify the species) was
flying around and shrieking, suggesting I had invaded its territory.
There was now a long steep climb up to the Sedum Ridge to rejoin the PCT. Climbs like
these, which would have been very hard work in April, were now easily accomplished. There
were occasional glimpses of Mount Hood and Mount Adams through gaps in the trees, but it
was back into the dark luxuriant forest for the long descent to Trout Creek. Most of the day
it was too dark for photography, even when there were clear periods in the afternoon.
I had seen no-one all day until the evening when a lady was out near my camp training a
dog for search and rescue work.
