PCT 2002 - May 7th
Day 28: Tuesday 7th May
Little Jimmy Trail Camp – Camp Glenwood
Today’s route followed the Silver Moccasin Trail paralleling the Angeles Crest
Highway 2, a scenic drive through the San Gabriel Mountains, for many miles, before
dropping sharply down into Rattlesnake Canyon. After crossing the creek the PCT
clung precipitously to the walls of this steep V-shaped canyon. When I reached Cooper
Canyon Trail Camp I had a much-needed wash in the stream. The route now climbed up
Cooper Canyon back up to the Angeles Crest Highway 2, before again paralleling the
highway.
I camped at Glenwood Camp, a children’s camp in the summer, but deserted this
early in May. There were a lot of ups and downs today. The Angeles Crest Highway 2
takes the natural line for a trail and the PCT is left with inferior lines. The walking was
pleasant enough with the open pine forest providing shade from the hot sun most of the
day. I didn’t see a single hiker all day.
