Day 137: Saturday 7th September      Trail 43 junction – Sheep Lake

It cleared overnight, but cloud built up quickly in the morning and I was soon
climbing up into the low cloud. It started to drizzle, which turned into snow as I reached
6000ft. At this altitude the snow did not “stick” but in brief clearances I could see snow
on the higher ridges. I met a number of hunters as well as riders and day hikers as I
was approaching Chinook Pass, where I had left some additional supplies. There was
the very large Great Blue Heron trying to find a meal in Fish Lake. This was an area
studded with lakes and, because of the easy road access, it was popular with walkers
and riders, even in this weather.
I camped at 6pm beside Sheep Lake. This was a classic mountain tarn and there
were already several groups camped around the lake. It would have been an idyllic spot
in good weather, but with showers coming in I settled into my tent. It sounded as if
there were coyotes in the hills, but I don’t know if they have them up in these
mountains.
