Day 141: Wednesday 11th September Dandy Creek – Lodge Lake
I was going to have an easy day, as there was no point in getting to the Post Office at
Snoqualmie Pass after closing hours. “Slim Tim” went by while I was still in bed. “Sumara”
and Chris caught up with me and I walked with them for a bit. They were slackpacking as
Shelley had had to give up due to blisters (She had walked most of yesterday in “Scooter”s
sandals). They camped at the Weather Station and were entertained by Jacqui with wine and
showers! They arranged for “Sumara”s wife, Rose, to pick up Shelley and transport the
rucksacks to Snoqualmie Pass.
I had a long break at Mirror Lake. This was a typical corrie tarn, surrounded by mature
forest, but I found a spot on the rocks. I stripped off, had a swim and washed all of my
clothing and relaxed in the sun waiting for my clothes to dry. A young couple turned up and
stripped off to swim, but chickened out when they tested the temperature of the water. There
was a Winter Wren hopping among the boulders around the lake. This was very similar to
the Wren I was accustomed to see in England.
I camped at Lodge Lake, which was another lake in thick mature forest. When I arrived
an Osprey was fishing at the lake. As soon as I set up my tent I was visited by a Steller Jay,
which was obviously used to being fed by campers at this site.
