PCT 2002 - September 12th
Day 142: Thursday 12th September Lodge Lake - above Ridge Lake
It only took me an hour to drop down to Snoqualmie Pass where I picked up my
supply bag from the store/Post Office. I had got a new pair of boots in the bag so I had to
throw away the boots I was wearing, despite the fact that they still had enough wear to
get me to Canada. The cost of posting them home would have been more than the boots
were worth. I sent home films and a water bottle, before going for a second breakfast at
the “Pancake Restaurant” with “Slim Tim”. He was about to do an extra 100-mile loop in
the Northern Cascades en route for the border and then to return to Cottonwood Pass to
complete the PCT by walking south to Campo. “Scooter”, “Cosue” and “Ranger” were
staying at the hotel at $65/night. I also had lunch at Snoqualmie Pass before starting on
the 25,00ft climb back into the mountains. It was a steep climb with views towards the
rocky spire of Guye Peak. I camped on the ridge just above Ridge Lake with views across
to Red Mountain. I was happy to camp early as camping sites and water would be in short
supply on the long alpine traverse ahead.
