Day 144: Saturday 14th September       Escondido Ridge – Deep Lake

It was still 65ºF at 6am, but clouds were starting to build up over Lemah Mountain.
The hiking today was spectacular, but the trail was going against the grain of the land so
there was a lot of ascent and descent. By the time I stopped for an early lunch by the
Waptus Creek I had already climbed more than 1,000ft and dropped 2,500ft. I then
climbed up towards Cathedral Pass and camped at Deep Lake at 6.30pm by which time it
was already too dark for photography because of the build up of dark cloud. I had a view
out of my tent across Deep Lake, a typical alpine corrie lake surrounded by steep cliffs,
towards the dramatic Cathedral Rock.

Day 144: 18.5 miles        7.57 hours                 Camp: Deep Lake
